Hassing's 20 Laws of Numismatics (Part 1)

May 14th 2007 21:02
Coin Money Numismatic Cash Currency

1. Coins possess the faculties of the monarch's head stamped on them (sight, hearing, speech, smell), but they can only see in the direction that the side of the coin is facing.

2. Coins cannot tell in which year they’re minted.

3. They’re obsessed with finding out, but must rely on other coins to tell them.

4. Older coins envy younger coins, and often lie when asked to read another coin's year of manufacture.

5. Deprived of motor ability, coins develop extraordinary mental powers over time.

6. Obsessed with the desire to achieve movement, they constantly work on their powers of telekinesis. The skill takes many years of meditation and effort. Only 1% of coins ever achieve it, and then it’s severely limited to influencing movement initiated by external forces, i.e. willing the result of a toss, marginally changing the direction of a roll, upsetting a delicate balance, influencing the direction of descent.

7. Coins have no sense of touch and don’t feel sensation, but they’re highly emotional beings and do experience claustrophobia, fear of death, loneliness etc.

8. They’re very philosophical.

9. Most are gregarious, but all like to preserve their personal space.

10. Coins are asexual.

Dear Nick, if you can find any evidence of coin sexuality, I'll happily modify my theory. Thanks for your feedback!

I seem to attract the telekinetic coins.

Every time I sit down in a chair, lay my purse down somewhere, or dig around for change, they leap out of their sequestering surroundings and make a break for freedom, usually en masse.

They also like to hide god-knows-where in my clothing, then suddenly reappear in my clothes-dryer, banging and clanging around and generally annoying the hell out of me...
